Adams' History

 1886

Adams Lithographing Co. is founded by Walter H. Adams in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

1900

Around 1900 offset printing was invented. A majority of printers were still using a process that required setting individual letters in galleys to produce images to paper.

1928

There was no offset lithography in Chattanooga, TN, so Mr. Adams decided to move his company to Chattanooga for better opportunities. There was much more opportunity in Chattanooga, primarily because of the number of insurance companies located in Chattanooga. Adams became the first offset lithographers in Chattanooga.

The first location was on Broad Street. There were very few employees, but two distinctive employees were Clyde W. Hogue and Ernest Igou. They both began working for Adams right before World War II. The company was later moved to on the corner of Fourth and Chestnut, directly across from the current Creative Discovery Museum. The company had approximately 3500 square feet at this location.

A few years later Mr. Adams dies and his wife takes over the business.

1958

30 years later after the move to Chattanooga, Clyde and Ernest buy the business from Mrs. Adams.

1967

Clyde Hogue dies and his son, Jim Hogue, takes over in father's footsteps. In the same year of Clyde's death, Adams moves to N. Market Street, across the river from its first location for a larger production facility. The new location would expand their production facility to 15,000 square feet. Years later this building is almost doubled in size to 28,000 square feet to meet more demand.

1992

Adams moves to its current location on Chapman Road near Shallowford Road and Highway 153. The newest location is built and designed specifically for a printing company's workflow. This new production facility boosts 50,000 square feet with capabilities to expand itself by more than three times itself in the future. By proper design of the building, Adams is able to be exceptionally efficient and productive in their workflow.

Currently Jim Hogue and his three sons, Wyatt, Jason, and Bryan work at Adams with many dedicated, longtime employees who hold this company's core virtues to continue the growth it's had over the past century.
